Posted by Ananth Rao on Apr 22, 2016 11:03:51 AM

As the world celebrates Earth Day, we, at USSI, are doing our bit each day as a commercial cleaning services provider to preserve and protect the environment.

We do this by:

- Using sustainable, green cleaning practices every day

- Training our employees on green cleaning methods

- Using cleaning chemicals and paper products that minimize harm to the environment

- Being involved with organizations such as Green Seal and US Green Building Council that promote the environmental stewardship

- Cleaning using sustainable cleaning practices is more than simply swapping out toxic cleaning chemicals

How Can Green Seal (GS-42) Help With LEED Certification?

Posted by Ananth Rao on Nov 20, 2015 1:46:00 PM

Looking for ways to maximize points for your LEED project? Green cleaning can help!

If you are reading this, you probably have a good idea about Green Cleaning & LEED certification. If not, head over here for a quick primer about these topics.

This post explains how a Green Seal (GS-42) certified cleaning program can help you maximize points for your LEED project.

Green Seal certifies products and services while USGBC (through the LEED rating system) certifies buildings. Products and services certified by Green Seal tie in well with LEED because Green Seal and USGBC are essentially trying to achieve the same thing – a better environment.

Green Seal is an independent non-profit organization that uses science-based methods to certify product and service claims of environmental benefits by developing performance, health, and environmental criteria. To claim to be Green Seal certified these products and services need to go through a rigorous testing process and prove their “green” credentials.

What does Green Seal have to do with LEED?

Fundamentally, Green Seal sets the standards very high for green cleaning. Think of it as insurance. The Green Seal (GS-42) standard goes above and beyond LEED requirements for Green Cleaning. When you choose a Green Seal (GS-42) certified cleaning services provider, you know you are getting the most points from Green Cleaning credits.

In fact, if you do not have an in-house green cleaning program, one way to satisfy a green cleaning prerequisite for LEED V4 is to be to Green Seal GS-42 certified.
